Larry McMillan graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1987, where he distinguished himself as a member of the Tennessee Law Review. He began his legal career with the Nashville firm Barnett & Alagia before returning to his hometown of Clarksville in 1992 to join Cunningham, Mitchell, Hicks, & McMillan.
McMillan’s legal career includes an impressive tenure as Chancellor for the 19th Judicial District of Tennessee, serving Montgomery and Robertson Counties from January 1, 2005, to August 31, 2022. As Chancellor, he presided over a wide variety of cases, including contract, probate, construction, property, domestic relations, and administrative appeals. During his distinguished career, he earned certification as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in 2001 and served as a Special Judge on the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the Fourth Circuit Court for Davidson County. McMillan’s extensive experience includes admission to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, as well as all Tennessee trial and appellate courts. He is also a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, a recognition of his excellence in the legal profession.
After his service as Chancellor, McMillan returned to private practice at Mitchell, Ross, Rocconi, and McMillan, where he focused on general civil litigation, including contract, property, probate, and business disputes, as well as personal injury and domestic relations cases. He also provided mediation services for civil disputes.
